Season 2 of Dr. Pimple Popper is coming to an end, but renowned dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee is leaving her fans with what she called one of her “craziest cases ever.” TLC and Lee teased the case on social media early Wednesday, revealing Leonard has had a giant “chip on his shoulder” growing for more than 10 years.
It was painful but contained three-pound mass until one day he cut it while trimming a tree. Now it emits a foul odor and is extremely painful. While it “used to be solid like a baseball,” it now droops and has an open wound that continues to tear. He’s in “constant” pain.
“My skin’s been ripping day by day. It feels like someone has two pairs of pliers on my skin and pulling it apart slowly,” Leonard said in a clip, posted to Lee’s social media page on Wednesday. “It’s driving me more insane than I already was. It’s nasty inside.”
It’s not just the pain. The odor is also plaguing Leonard. People avoid him in public and the smell is so bad that he doesn’t want to eat. “When I go out in public, people don’t want to be around me because of the smell. It smells like 10 dead rats crawling out of a dead a**,” he said.
Leonard described the mass as having puss, which means it might be infected. “For a while, there was a yellow puss and then it turned into greener pus. Now it’s a grey-green puss. It’s hard for me to eat because of the smell,” he said.
The first thing Lee noticed about Leonard was not his growth, but the mask he was wearing. Leonard is afraid of getting sick, though Lee doesn’t see those types of patients in her office. She quickly determined Leonard was afraid of doctors and made sure to be extra cautious when examining him.
“I definitely see patients who have a fear of doctors. Leonard is the worst I’ve ever seen,” she said in a confessional. “I pride myself on being really good at calming my patients’s nerves, but I’ll tell you, Leonard is another level. I really have to watch every single thing I say because I think any wrong movement that I make he can be out the door.”
Lee was shocked by what she saw during the initial exam. “I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s crazy looking,” she said. “Why does it have this rolled border and this redness in the center like is this exposed? This is really concerning to me and it really makes me think that this can be something much more dangerous.”
So was Lee able to help Leonard? As with all the cases featured on Dr. Pimple Popper, it’s unlikely that Leonard has something terminal. While she does test her patients for possible cancerous growths, she hasn’t had one patient with a malignant result featured on the series. She also showed a preview of her “popping” Leonard’s growth, though it was done without sound.
Don’t miss the Season 2 finale of Dr. Pimple Popper when its airs Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
