Pantone Classic Blue, Pantone’s Color Of The Year Is A Universal Home.
Pantone on Thursday dubbed “Classic Blue” the color of 2020, but company executives deny the choice has any ties to the political climate.
“We are living in a time that requires trust and faith. It is this kind of constancy and confidence that is expressed by PATONE 19-4052 Classic Blue, a solid and dependable blue hue we can always rely on,” Leatrice Eiseman, the executive director of the Pantone Institute, said in the announcement.
But Pantone executives were hesitant to suggest reasons people could need the “constancy” of the shade has to do with political unrest.
“We weren’t looking at this as a political message,” Laurie Pressman, vice president at Pantone, told The New York Times.
The newspaper reported the decision wasn’t made in regards to the ongoing impeachment inquiry of President Trump or the Brexit debate, nor was it meant to signal support for the Democratic Party ahead of the 2020 election cycle.
Instead, Pantone said the “non-aggressive and easily relatable” classic blue can help some people relax “as technology continues to race ahead of the human ability to process it all.”
The company announced “Coral 16-1546” as its color of the year in 2019.
